The second-generation epix is finally official

Garmin has officially announced the second-generation epix, the company’s most advanced smartwatch and a modern interpretation of the device launched so many years ago.

Let’s say it loud and clear from the very beginning: epix is pretty much the best Garmin watch you can buy right now, and in many regards, it’s exactly the upgraded Fenix many people have been drooling over.

It all starts with the screen. Unlike the new Fenix, Garmin’s 2022 epix smartwatch comes with a 1.3-inch AMOLED display with touch support. The device also features an always-on option, but it can obviously light up as well based on a wrist rotation gesture.

The perfect Fenix

Just like the Fenix, this device comes with physical buttons which will come in extraordinarily handy when working out. Most likely, the touch input will be disabled during certain activities like swimming, so you can safely rely on the physical buttons for further input.

When it comes to sensors, the epix Gen 2 has them all. It offers 24/7 health monitoring, respiration and stress tracking, sleep scores and insights, Garmin’s signature Body Battery energy monitoring, and so much more. Like Fenix, epix has been built with health monitoring in mind, but at the same time, it also doubles as an excellent smartwatch that can easily compete against the leaders on the market, such as the Apple Watch and Samsung’s Galaxy Watch.

Garmin epix starts at $899.99, so it’s clearly a rather premium device, as this price tag makes it even more expensive than the recently launched Fenix 7. This obviously signals a massive upgrade versus the Fenix, though it’s pretty clear Garmin is betting big on the screen upgrade for this model.

The device will be offered in three different versions, namely slate steel, black titanium sapphire, and white titanium sapphire. It’s already available for pre-order with a 4 to 6 weeks shipping estimate.
