Video game retail chain Gamestop is announcing that it is offering a major deal to those who want to exchange their Xbox One home console for a PlayStation 4 or the other way around, with a trade-in offer that is delivering 200 dollars (180 Euro) worth of value towards the purchase of another current gen device.

Those who are interested in the deal have until April 24 to decide what kind of switch they want to make, and the big condition is to have all the components associated with the device they are trading in and to show that it is in working condition.

Gamestop is also taking home consoles that have defects but for a lower trade-in offer, and at the moment the deal is only available to those who live in the United States, and it’s a good idea to contact the local store before.

Gamers also have the option of giving an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3 in order to get 100 dollars (89 Euro) in credit for the purchase of an Xbox One, which is being at the moment discounted by Microsoft to 300 dollars or Euro.

The deal might be a sign of coming hardware launches

The chief operations officer at the retail chain has recently suggested that new hardware is coming for video game fans later in the year, even if the company has not yet factored in sales associated with it into its growth projections, and he also mentioned that Gamestop knows more than it can say about the issue.

The new promotion might be just a practice run for a bigger one that will allow gamers to offer their launch Xbox One or PlayStation 4 in order to get an improved version of their favorite platform before the end of 2014.

Sony is rumored to be working on a PlayStation 4K that will introduce a new graphics processing unit with double the power of the current one and will also bring more features that will give support to the coming PlayStation VR solution.

Information from the FCC and from the Brazilian government is also suggesting that Xbox One is preparing to get a new Slim version, which might be officially announced as soon as E3 2016 in June of this year.

Nintendo is also working on its own NX platform which should be released this year, although no official details about it have arrived so far.
