Samsung is preparing to launch two new tablets, as successors to last year’s Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Tab S2 9.7. Details on the specs of the Galaxy Tab S3 8.0 model have appeared on China’s certification authority TENAA, showing pictures of the device and mentioning that the model was approved under the name of SM-T719 .

Galaxy Tab S3 8.0 will feature an 8-inch display, with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels, same as its predecessor, Galaxy S2 8.0. It will be powered by an octa-core 1.8 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, an upgrade from Tab S2’s octa-core 1.9 GHz Exynos Octa 5433.

The tablet will come with 3GB of RAM, with the option to add up to 32GB more by inserting a card into the microSD slot. Galaxy Tab S3 8.0 will have a 2MP front camera and an 8MP camera on the back, sustained by a 4000mAh battery.

Images show that there are no major changes when it comes to the design, as the model seems to be as sleek and light as the previous version. The pictures only show the white version, but since the predecessor tablet also had a black gold model, we expect S3 to come in this variant as well.

No changes in weight and display

The dimensions are the same as for the previous Galaxy Tab S2 version, with the device expected to weigh at 272 grams and measure 198.6 x 134.8 x 5.6 mm. The Galaxy S3 Tab 8.0 will be getting Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 right out of the box. The display is the same as for its predecessor, 1536 x 2048 pixels AMOLED.

There’s no mention of sensors, but Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 came with a fingerprint sensor, so it’s only natural that the upgraded version will feature this type of sensor as well.

It is believed that Samsung released the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 in order to compete against Apple and Dell tablets, and at least in terms of price, it was a good alternative. The Tab S2 came with superior storage and the option to add even more through microSD card. However, Samsung has yet to provide any information on when it intends to launch the Galaxy Tab S3 8.0.
