When the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ started shipping to owners in Korea, some complained about a reddish discoloration on the display. Samsung did say that an update would arrive this week, and it seems that the time has come, according to a report.

Samsung has started rolling out a software update for the Galaxy S8 (SM-G950N) and Galaxy S8+ (SM-G955N) in Korea. The firmware carries version number G950NKSU1AQDG or G950NKSU1AQDG, depending on the model.

The update arrived to solve the issue that some users have had with the red tint, providing additional settings in the Adaptive Display screen mode. These new tools allow users to adjust the “full screen color balance” as they prefer and thus even out the red tint.

Moreover, Samsung has provided Galaxy S8 and S8+ users with a new option, called Screen Edge Color Balance, available in the Screen Mode menu. The tool lets users adjust the colors at the edges of the screen and change the appearance of white tones on the new phones.

The list of other screen modes includes Adaptive display, AMOLED cinema, AMOLED photo and Basic options. Samsung mentions that the screen mode automatically optimizes the color range, saturation and sharpness of the display, but it might not be compatible with third-party apps.

Users from countries other than Korea have also complained about the red tint issue and Samsung will most likely provide them with the update in the following days. Recently, Samsung has emphasized the fact that the red discoloration isn’t a hardware issue, as some presumed that perhaps malfunctioning graphics processing units inside the phone could be causing the problem.

Samsung has stated that the red discoloration is in the “nature of Super AMOLED displays” and that differences in color are “natural.” The company denies that the red tint is caused by a hardware problem.
