14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung completed the Galaxy Beta program for the Nougat update on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge phones sometime last month and sources have said the update would be pushed out in January 2017.
A new report has revealed that Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will receive the Nougat update specifically on January 17. However, it's worth mentioning that it refers to European models.
The report was posted on Chinese social network Weibo and shows a notification on a Galaxy S7 phone revealing details about the update. The text was translated from Turkish into Spanish and then English. Some details may have been lost or misinterpreted in the process.
The update might arrive in less than a week in Europe
The announcement says that devices carrying model number SM-G935F would get the Android 7.0 Nougat update on January 17. The OS’s version number is offsetting, considering that official reports revealed Android 7.1.1 Nougat updates for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.
Samsung may be releasing 7.0 Nougat updates to some regions and 7.1.1 Nougat to others. But most likely, the phrase Android 7.0 Nougat is used generically and all phones will receive the same 7.1.1 Nougat update with all incremental features found in the previous version.
The model number also refers to the European Galaxy S7 edge, which means that owners of Samsung’s S7 and S7 edge can expect to receive the update in less than a week.
Samsung ended the Galaxy Beta Program for Galaxy S7 and S7 edge Nougat updates in late December, after releasing five updates to the newest Android OS version. The updates included some changes in Samsung’s proprietary UI.
