Samsung is working on a new flagship smartphone, the successor to last year’s disastrous Galaxy Note 7, which was discontinued soon after its release. A new report reveals that the Galaxy Note 8 could be announced ahead of IFA, in mid-August.

The Galaxy Note 8 was previously thought to arrive a day before or even during the upcoming IFA event in Berlin, but it seems that Samsung might plan to announce the smartphone earlier. An earlier release date would allow Samsung to get a head start before Apple unveils its OLED iPhone 8.

In addition, a mid-August unveil would be in line with last year’s official announcement of the Galaxy Note 7, which arrived on August 19, but was later discontinued. The Galaxy Note 8 won’t have the same fate as its predecessor, considering that Samsung has upped safety checks and didn’t receive a single report of overheating batteries since the Galaxy S8 launched in April.

The Galaxy Note 8 might feature two 13MP sensors on the rear

Recent information about the upcoming flagship smartphone reveals that the Galaxy Note 8 might feature two 13MP sensors on the back. It has been long rumored that the successor to the Galaxy Note 7 will come with a dual-camera setup on the rear, but it won’t be the first Samsung smartphone with such a camera system. Instead, the Galaxy C10 will soon launch in China, with two sensors on the back and a RAM capacity of 6GB.

Samsung is reportedly working on three different dual camera modules, but there hasn’t been any rumor suggesting a dual selfie cam on the Note 8. Previously, reports suggested that the Galaxy Note 8 would come with a 13MP and 12MP dual camera system, respectively wide and telephoto sensors.

The Galaxy Note 8 could also be the first smartphone to run the Snapdragon 836 platform, while its battery capacity might reach just 3,200mAh. The phone is also expected to come with a 6.3-inch Infinity Display with 18:9 aspect ratio.
