14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 7 and presented all of its features during the Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event yesterday. Pre-orders for the smartphone are already live while the device is expected to go on sale on August 19 in the US. It seems that Samsung believes that the Note 7 will sell better than its predecessor, the Note 5.
Korean Times cites a Samsung executive saying that the initial response regarding the Galaxy Note 7 has been very favorable in South Korea and all around the world. In addition, the exec seems to have claimed that sales of the current Note exceed those of previous models, including the Note 5 from last year.
Some numbers would have been interesting to analyze, but the executive has failed to provide any. Statistics on sales should arrive in a few weeks at the earliest, once the device is available in all major markets and shipments have already started.
12 million units of the Galaxy Note 7 are estimated to ship this year
Hyundai Securities analyst Kim Dong-won has stated for Korea Herald that Galaxy Note 7 shipments could reach 12 million this year, as the device will capture the market's attention at least before Apple releases its upcoming iPhone. By comparison, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have recorded 13.3 million shipped units since launch, and the Galaxy Note 7 is on its way to breaking this record.
Samsung is surely entitled to assume the Note 7 will have a greater success compared to the Note 5, considering that the latest device comes with more powerful specs and some newly introduced features, as well as a redesigned S Pen.
But that's not all, as Samsung has added the iris scanner for unlocking the smartphone, accessing bank accounts and even making payments with Samsung Pay. In addition, the Note 7 comes with a larger battery compared to the Note 5, specifically, 3,500mAh.
Aside from this, the Galaxy Note 7 has a Power Saving Mode that allows users to adjust some phone settings in order to save battery, including screen resolution, which is a first on a smartphone. The Galaxy Note 7 is the first Note handset to boast IP68 certification, as even the S Pen comes with water and dust protection.
