gNewSense LiveCD is based on the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution. gNewSense project's goal is to take all the binary blobs out of a rather popular distribution and make it all free.

gNewSense team has removed all proprietary firmware, restricted modules and Ubuntu logos are removed, while the "Universe" repository is enabled by default. Also, some applications like Emacs, bsdgames, nethack and build-essential are part of the default installation.

The gNewSense team has also produced a set of scripts that allow anyone to create a GNU/Linux Distribution.

Let's have a look at the applications installed:

■ GNOME 2.14.1 ■ Alacarte Menu Editor ■ GIMP Image Editor ■ gThumb Image Viewer ■ XSane Image Scanner ■ Ekiga Softphone ■ Evolution Mail ■ Mozilla Firefox ■ Gaim Internet Messenger ■ Terminal Server Client ■ OpenOffice.org Suite ■ Emacs ■ Totem Movie Player ■ Rhythmbox Music Player ■ Serpentine Audio CD Creator ■ Sound Juicer CD Extractor ■ Sound Recorder ■ ...and a lot of free games like: AisleRiot Solitare, Ataxx, Blackjack, Five or More, Four-in-a-Row, FreeCell Solitare, Gnometris, Iagno, Klotski, Mines, Nibbles, Robots, Tali and Tetravex.
