Wireless Internet and mobile phone service provider FreedomPop has announced that it has become the first US mobile provider to zero-rate WhatsApp. The company is offering free, unlimited WhatsApp in the US and more than 30 other countries around the world.

FreedomPop is offering a zero-rated WhatsApp SIM and includes an additional 200MBs of free data, with additional paid plans starting at under $10. The WhatsApp SIM will come with unlimited WhatsApp usage, plus 200mBs of additional data, and 100 voice minutes free each month.

The free plan allows users to simply plug a FreedomPop SIM in their Android or iOS smartphones and start using the plan for free each month. The plan is also applicable for when traveling abroad, giving users unlimited and free international data and texts to any US mobile user across 31 countries including the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, and many more.

The plan is also available in Spain, where the company launched the same WhatsApp SIM, but in a number of countries in Southeast Asia as well.

The company offers two more additional WhatsApp plans

The SIM is available at Freedom Pop's website, where users need to type in the ZIP code to see the offer that applies in their area.

FreedomPop has two more attractive WhatsApp plans, including one that offers 1GB of mobile data, unlimited minutes, messages, and WhatsApp, together with roaming in more than 30 countries for free during the first month and $20.99 in the following months.

The second plan is $29.99 per month and offers 2GB of mobile data and unlimited minutes, messages, and WhatsApp, as well as roaming.

FreedomPop's new WhatsApp SIM could pose some issues when it comes to net neutrality laws imposed by the FCC in the US, but the company says that it's “setting the stage for zero-rated models that comply with the recent ruling.“
