The application will be brought back to life very soon

A new version of FRAPS will be launched at some point in the future, the developing team has confirmed, and one of the key features will be full support for Windows 10.

FRAPS was one of the top benchmarking, screen capture and screen recording tools for Windows users for a long time, as it offered one very advanced way to capture data from games or other applications based on both DirectX and OpenGL. Still, without any updates in the last few years, many thought that the app was gone.

The latest Fraps version was 3.5.99 and was released nearly 3 years ago, but it looks like the developing team is once again working on the program, and an update could be released soon.

Beepa, the company that brought FRAPS to life, has revealed in an email for Overclock3D that FRAPS 3.6 is projected to launch sometime soon with support for Windows 10.

No sign of universal app just yet

There’s still no mention of a universal app or DirectX 12 and Vulkan support, but given the fact that work on this project has restarted, such improvements are very likely to land, if not now, certainly at some point in the future - probably in version 4.0, when bigger changes make a little bit more sense.

“Thanks for your inquiry. Our developers are currently working on the next version of Fraps (3.6.0) which will include official support for Windows 10, as well as other minor bug fixes and improvements. Unfortunately I am unable to provide you with a release date, however we do hope to have it available for download from our website as soon as possible. I apologize for the inconvenience in the meantime,” Beepa explains in the email.

Since many thought that FRAPS was dead, users have already turned to alternative solutions, including FCAT, which does require expensive hardware but also comes with super advanced features. And yet, there’s no doubt that the relaunch of FRAPS will get everyone’s attention, so hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long before this happens.
