The COVID restrictions are being lifted in China

The production of iPhones has been massively impacted by the COVID restrictions in China, particularly at the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou.

Due to a system referred to as point-to-point, employees working at the plant were only allowed to move from their rooms to production lines, always under supervision, just to make sure that the risks of getting and spreading COVID is close to 0.

But with China itself easing up the restrictions, Foxconn is now doing the same thing, and most notably, this highly criticized system seems to be dropped as well.

A report from Bloomberg reveals that most COVID restrictions are being lifted as well, so at the end of the day, the production of iPhones could start gain traction by the end of the year.

Apple acknowledged the production problems

Apple itself warned in November that the production of iPhones was impacted by the COVID restrictions, with the company acknowledging that the Pro models in the latest-generation series were the ones hit the hardest.

“COVID-19 restrictions have temporarily impacted the primary iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max assembly facility located in Zhengzhou, China. The facility is currently operating at significantly reduced capacity. As we have done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we are prioritizing the health and safety of the workers in our supply chain,” Apple said.

“We continue to see strong demand for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. However, we now expect lower iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max shipments than we previously anticipated and customers will experience longer wait times to receive their new products.”

According to the Apple Store, the iPhone 14 Pro inventory remains very constrained, so if you order a new device today, you will only receive it in the first week of the new year.
