Apple’s “Get A Mac” commercials were quite popular in the 2000s, and the entertaining lines between the two actors were aimed at convincing consumers to pick a Mac over a PC. Now, actor Justin Long was hired to take part in a new series of commercials for Huawei devices.

In one of the videos, Justin Long interviews for a director position in a new ad for Huawei’s Mate 9. The video praises the Mate 9’s powerful battery that can go two days without needing a charge, as well as its advanced camera capabilities.

It also showcases Amazon’s Alexa AI virtual assistant, incorporated in Huawei’s Mate 9. The second ad features Huawei’s MateBook auditioning for a part in a new production, while the Mate 9 and Justin Long watch the notebook’s performance.

Huawei intends to grow its presence in the US

The new ads are quite different compared to Apple’s “Get a Mac” commercials, but some similarities are present. The videos are short, the dialog is funny, but Justin Long is the only character now, as opposed to “Get a Mac” ads which often featured guest appearances by various celebrities, one of which was Gisele Bundchen.

Nonetheless, it’s a bold move from Huawei to contract an actor who was associated for years with Apple products. This move confirms Huawei’s intention to expand in the US and reach increasingly more customers, and the company is on the right track.

A recent report revealed that Huawei recorded the third largest global smartphone shipments in Q4 2016, after Apple and Samsung. Judging by the numbers, Huawei stands a chance to challenge Samsung as the biggest provider of Android-running smartphones.

Huawei will be announcing the upcoming flagship P10 in the coming weeks, which will surely capture the attention of consumers with rumored Leica rear sensors and dual-edge curved display.
