Ex-Apple CEO John Sculley (1983-1993) is back to doing business in the world of mobile, as Obi Worldphone – a company he is backing, has just unveiled a pair of two budget smartphones called the SF1 and SJ1.5.

Both models will be available on the market starting October from retail stores in some countries and online in others. The startup has said the two phones will initially be available in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa, Pakistan, Turkey and India.

Obi Worldphone SF1

The first model arrives in the world with a 5-inch JDI In-Cell IPS full HD (1080 x 1920 pixel resolution) and 443ppi. It also offers Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection and features a unibody with metallic accents.

The SF1 is powered by a Snapdragon 615 characteristic of more advanced middle-rangers in combination with Adreno 405 GPU and either 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (for $199 / €175) or 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage for $249 / €220.

In the photo department, the SF1 features a 13MP autofocus camera with LED Flash, Sony Exmor IMX214 sensor and f/2.0 aperture. There is a 5MP secondary front camera with LED flash onboard.

The phone also has 4G LTE, dual-SIM, Dolby Audio Surround 7.1 and Quick Charge 1.0 for fast charging. The whole shenanigan is kept alive by a pretty decent 3,000 mAh battery.

Obi Worldphone SJ1.5

This model features a polycarbonate unibody with a curved touch display and features a magnesium-titanium alloy chassis. It offers a slighter smaller 5-inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) display with 294ppi and offers the services of Corning Gorilla Glass.

Under the hood resides a quad-core MediaTek (MT6580) chipset clocked at 1.3GHz fitted with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage (expandable via microSD card slot up to 32GB).

As for photography, users can take advantage of an 8MP/5MP camera setup. The Sj1.5 also packs 3G and a 3,000 mAh battery.

Both smartphones run Android 5.1 Lollipop with Obi Lifespeed UI plastered on top, which gives the handsets a very unique vibe.

The two devices are a hybrid between Nokia’s Lumia devices and HTC’s polycarbonate mid-range phones and have been produced by Sculley in collaboration with the Ammunition Group.
