The latest version of Flipboard includes support for widgets

Back in the fall of the last year, Apple rolled out iOS 14 with several important improvements, including a highly anticipated feature: support for widgets on the home screen.

While they’re not dynamic and can’t include interactive controls, the widgets are a great way to customize the iPhone home screen. So developers have been working around the clock lately to update their apps with a dedicated widget that can be added to the home screen.

Flipboard is the latest big name to get a widget, with the latest release finally bringing this feature to users out there.

Just as expected, the widget displays the headlines from user-defined categories, with four different sizes currently available to users.

Four widget sizes

Despite Flipboard calling this widget a “dynamic edition,” it’s still as static as it gets, with the content only automatically refreshed when the widget reloads.

“The new Flipboard widget puts headlines from topics you follow right on your iOS Today Screen or Home Screen, making sure you don’t miss stories you care about. The widget is one of the most popular ways people access Flipboard, so for iOS14 we updated the design and made it more customizable for you,” the company explains.

“The new dynamic edition of our widget comes in four sizes, from a thumbnail with one single story to a roundup of four of the latest stories. Headlines update every time the widget loads.”

Needless to say, the new widget is available on all iPhones already updated to iOS 14. This operating system update is available for the iPhone 6s and newer, including the iPhone SE, though on smaller screens, you might want to stick with the smallest widgets because otherwise, they’d eat up quite an important part of the screen, leaving little room for the rest of the icons on one page.
