HMD Global unveiled a number of new Nokia-branded smartphones during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year, but the company will release the new devices in the second quarter of the year. Information about the Nokia flagship smartphone has leaked again.

It’s unclear what the retail name of the new Nokia-branded flagship will be, with rumors saying that the phone will be known as Nokia C9, Nokia P1 or Nokia 9. Recent leaks say that the device will carry the name Nokia 9 and feature a 5.5-inch OLED display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution.

A report by NPU states that the smartphone will run the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 platform and Adreno 540 graphics processing unit. This seems to be in line with previous reports that tipped the most powerful Qualcomm platform on the new phone.

6GB of RAM and powerful 22MP dual-lens rear camera

Inside, Nokia 9 is said to come with 6GB of RAM, together with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage and a 22MP dual-lens camera on the back, possibly Carl Zeiss-branded. The front facing camera sensor would have 12MP and Nokia 9 might draw power from a 3,800mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support.

Other specs indicate IP68 certification, Android 7.1.2 Nougat and Nokia OZO audio enhancements with 3D capture and playback support. This means that Nokia 9 could be a VR-enabled phone, seeing how the Snapdragon platform and screen resolution would support that. Spatial audio playback systems would provide the phone with support for head tracking, together with high-quality stereo playback.

There’s also talk of an iris scanner that would provide an extra layer of security, aside from the fingerprint sensor. If the rumors turn out to be true, then Nokia 9 will most likely challenge other premium smartphones on the market, including Samsung’s Galaxy S8. A competitive price tag would make the Nokia 9 very appealing to customers.
