The device is already available for pre-order

Fitbit has recently announced the new Sense flagship smartwatch, and one of the biggest upgrades on this model is the addition of ECG.

In other words, the new Fitbit smartwatch can now perform an ECG by just requiring you to touch the corners of the stainless steel case.

ECG on a smartwatch isn’t necessarily a new feature, as Apple brought it to the Series 4 (and now available on the Series 5 too), while Samsung also released similar functionality on its smartwatches.

Fitbit, on the other hand, won’t offer ECG on day one. So if you pre-ordered the device, you are projected to get it in late September, just like the company announced originally. Only that your Fitbit sense won’t be available with ECG, as the company is yet to receive FDA clearance in the United States.

Coming later this year

However, according to a recent interview of Fitbit VP Larry Yang, ECG support should be added to the Fitbit Sense with a software update later this year both in the United States and in Europe. No specific timing has been offered at this point, so all we know is that ECG would be available on the Fitbit Sense by the holiday season.

The same for Google Assistant, that is. Both Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 come with Google Assistant support, but the new feature won’t be available on day one either. On the other hand, support for Alexa will still be available out of the box, so Google Assistant will arrive at a later time with a software update.

Certainly, Fitbit Sense will become quite an advanced smartwatch once all functionality is enabled, so let’s just hope that owners won’t be disappointed with the lack of these features when they get their devices in the last weeks of September.
