Fitbit will soon make the full switch to Google accounts for new devices and features, and as part of the transition, the company is also making some changes to the way users can log in on Fitbit.com.

In other words, if you previously used the Google sign-in method on Fitbit’s official site, this method is now being removed, as the parent company is working on implementing full support for Google accounts.

While no date is offered, a warning on Fitbit.com reveals that the company is working on an improved experience, which should be coming soon to users.

“We are removing the option to log in to your account on fitbit.com with your Google credentials to support an improved experience coming soon. To prepare for this removal, be sure you know the email address and password you use for Fitbit. If you don’t know your password, click Forgot Password. For more information about your Fitbit account, including how to find and change your email address, see our help article,” the notification reads.

Google: Fitbit will continue to run independently

While Fitbit will switch to Google accounts, the company will continue to run independently, something the search giant has promised from the very beginning.

Google completed the Fitbit acquisition in early 2021, and the search giant promised that it won’t use the user data for ads.

“This deal has always been about devices, not data, and we’ve been clear since the beginning that we will protect Fitbit users’ privacy. We worked with global regulators on an approach which safeguards consumers' privacy expectations, including a series of binding commitments that confirm Fitbit users’ health and wellness data won't be used for Google ads and this data will be separated from other Google ads data,” Google said at that point.
