It’s not something to be excited about though

Microsoft has released the very first Surface Duo 2 update after the device started shipping to customers in the markets where it’s available.

The Surface Duo 2 is therefore being offered firmware update version 2021.827.34, though according to the official changelog, there’s not much to be excited about.

Microsoft says the update includes improvements for the stability of the device, so if you previously encountered minor issues on this front, there’s a chance they’re gone now after installing this update.

Microsoft Surface Duo 2

The Surface Duo 2 is a massive upgrade over the first generation, especially in terms of hardware, as the device now runs on a proper high-end processor and sports a more capable camera.

Power now comes from a Snapdragon 888 processor, and the Duo 2 boasts a triple-camera configuration that makes so much sense for a device whose pricing starts at $1,500.

But while in terms of hardware the Surface Duo 2 is a substantial upgrade, users are still hoping the device would align with their expectations in terms of software too.

The Duo 2 launched with Android 11 out of the box, and right now, it’s not clear when Microsoft could end up shipping the update to the newly-released Android 12. It’ll probably take a while, but hopefully, it won’t take as long as in the case of the original Surface Duo, which is still on Android 10.

Microsoft itself promised to ship the Android 11 update for the Surface Duo by the end of this year, but of course, this doesn’t mean much given Google has already announced Android 12. So in theory, Microsoft’s super-high-end device will remain on an old version of Android, with the software giant promising at least three years of updates after the launch of the device.
