The browser has just reached another major version

Mozilla has just released another big update for Firefox, as the browser has therefore reached version 97 on all the support desktop platforms.

The biggest change in this update is the addition of new goodies for Windows 11 users, as Mozilla says it has added support for the new style of scrollbars in this operating system.

In other words, Firefox will play even nicer with Windows 11, as it now aligns with the rest of the operating system much easier, while also using the UI improvements that are bundled with it.

macOS users are also getting additional polishing, as Mozilla says it has included a series of system font loading improvements, so new tabs should launch faster.

Two features going away

Mozilla is also warning that the debut of Firefox 97 comes with two big changes for theme users and those running the browser on Linux.

“On February 8, we will be expiring the 18 colorway themes of Firefox version 94. This signals the end of a special, limited-time feature set. However, you can hold onto your favorite colorway, as long as you’re using it on the expiration date. In other words, if a colorway is “enabled” in the add-ons manager, that colorway is yours forever,” the company says.

“Support for directly generating PostScript for printing on Linux has been removed. Printing to PostScript printers still remains a supported option, however.”

Needless to say, Firefox 97 also comes with a series of other bug fixes and improvements, so if you’re using this browser on your PC, just make sure you update as soon as possible.

Of course, if you’ve installed Firefox from the Microsoft Store on Windows 11, the new version should become available automatically as part of the built-in update mechanism. Just make sure you look for new app updates in the Microsoft Store.
