Mozilla has officially released a new version of Firefox, this time with pretty huge improvements under the hood.

First and foremost, the biggest change you’ll notice after launching Firefox 89 is the revamped UI, which Mozilla says it has specifically been redesigned “to be cleaner, more inviting, and easier to use.”

This modern refresh includes a simplified browser chrome and toolbar, clear menus with removed iconography, updated prompts for infobars, panels, and modals, as well as a new tab design.

“Floating tabs neatly contain information and surface cues when you need them, like visual indicators for audio controls. The rounded design of the active tab supports focus and signals the ability to easily move the tab as needed,” Mozilla says.

Firefox overall comes with fewer alerts and messages for fewer distractions, as well as with redesigned iconography that’s lighter, with the browser sticking with a refined and simplified color palette.

Improvements for macOS too

The Mac version of Firefox is also getting an important overhaul, with support for smart zoom, as well as with the highly anticipated elastic overscroll effect.

“For macOS users, we're introducing the elastic overscroll effect known from many other applications. A gentle bouncing animation will indicate that you reached the end of the page. In addition, we added support for smart zoom. Double-tap with two fingers on your trackpad, or with a single finger on your Magic Mouse, to zoom the content below your cursor into focus,” Mozilla says.

Of course, there are also several other improvements under the hood, as well as additional fixes to allow the browser to run correctly on all supported platforms.

As usual, you can download the latest version of Firefox from Softpedia using the manual installer if the built-in engine hasn’t already installed the new release automatically on your computer.
