Mozilla has recently released the first revision for Firefox 108, with the company sticking with a rather minor update this time.

Firefox 108.0.1 comes with just a single fix, as the company has discovered that in some cases, the default search engine was being reset in the browser.

“Fixes the default search engine being reset on upgrade for profiles which were previously copied from a different location,” Mozilla says.

No other changes are included in this update, but nevertheless, users are still recommended to install the latest version on their devices as soon as possible.

The new version includes all the changes that were part of Firefox 108, which was shipped to devices out there on December 13.

For example, Firefox 108 comes with substantial improvements for Windows 11, as the browser takes advantage of the efficiency mode in order to reduce the resource usage and therefore reduce the impact it has on the performance of the system.

These are the changes that were included in Firefox 108 (and which are also part of the update released recently by Mozilla):

  • Import maps, which allow web pages to control the behavior of JavaScript imports, are now enabled by default.
  • Processes used for background tabs now use efficiency mode on Windows 11 to limit resource use.
  • The shift+esc keyboard shortcut now opens the Process Manager, offering a way to quickly identify processes that are using too many resources.
  • Improved frame scheduling when under load; this substantially improves Firefox’s MotionMark scores.

Firefox continues to be one of the most popular browsers out there, and given it’s the only solid alternative to Chromium-based alternatives, it’s no surprise that so many people love it. Updates like version 108.0.1 play a key role in the overall experience with the browser, so make sure you install it as soon as possible.
