Because saving kittens from trees is so last year

Over the weekend, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service crews had one very important - and quite bizarre - mission to tackle. Long story short, they were called in to help rescue a cow stranded in a swimming pool in Kermincham.

Apparently, it's not just kittens that have a knack for getting themselves in trouble and then need firefighters to come rescue them and reunite them with their owners.

It is understood the cow fell into the pool when, while exploring its owner's property, it made the mistake to try and walk on water. You see, the pool was covered and so the animal didn't even realize it was there.

All it took was a few misplaced steps and the cow fell through the pool's cover and into about 4 feet (1.2 meters) of dirty water. It failed to get out on its own and so its owner had to call the emergency line and ask for help.

“We are assuming the cow escaped its field and wandered on to the pool cover, thinking it was solid surface. Obviously, the cow fell through the canvas pool cover,” fire crew manager Andy Hallworth told Sky News in an interview.

It's not easy getting a cow out of a swimming pool

To save the poor creature, firefighters first had to pump some of the water out of the pool. Then, the cow's owner somehow managed to build a row of stairs from bales of hay.

Guided by firefighters, who got into the swimming pool with it, the animal got up the makeshift steps and then finally made it out of the pool.

“The crews began the rescue by pumping water out of the pol using a portable pump,” the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service writes in a report detailing this incident.

“The farmer used machinery to build steps out of large hay bales as the animal rescue team got into the remaining 0.5 meters [1.6 feet] of water to help the animal back onto dry land,” it adds.

Worry not, the cow was not in any way injured. It probably didn't have the time of its life splashing around in the pool, but at least it escaped unscathed.
