Nintendo's Fire Emblem series celebrates 30 years since launch later this year, and the Japanese company has decided to offer players all over the world the chance to play the original game which was only released in Japan.

The original 8-bit game, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, which follows the adventures of Prince Marth, was launched on December 4, 1990. For the first time, the game will be available outside Japan.

While players across Europe were first introduced to Marth as a fighter in the Super Smash Bros. series, the story of this bold and courageous prince actually begins in Japan’s first entry in the Fire Emblem franchise, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light.

Nintendo revealed this week that Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light will be released on the Switch on December 4 and will be available to purchase via the Nintendo eShop for a limited time.

Throughout Marth’s perilous journey, players can shape their armies to execute a range of strategies by carefully selecting from dozens of characters with unique attributes that can turn the tide of every battlefield skirmish.

Fans of the series can pick up Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light until the end of the franchise’s 30th anniversary on 31st March 2021. Now, there are a couple of things worth mentioning such as the fact that this isn't a remaster or a remake. The game will simply be ported to the Nintendo Switch family without any visual improvements. The good news Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light costs just $6/€6.

Also, Nintendo confirmed that Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light will include some new features like rewind, fast forward, and save states, as well as English-language localization.
