14 DAY TRIAL // The final version of iOS 11 got leaked during the weekend, revealing many of the new features coming to the 2017 lineup of iPhones, and as it turns out, it all happened because of one angry Apple employee.
Apple blogger John Grubber, who has a very good track on Apple reports thanks to company insiders, says the leak happened after someone working for the Cupertino-based company decided to provide websites with direct links to the final iOS 11 build.
3 iPhones coming on Tuesday
It appears that Apple has already finalized iOS 11, but the company is trying to keep the GM build away from users by making direct links impossible to guess. But the angry Apple employee sent the link to a number of blogs, allowing them to download the firmware and to install it on their iPhones to inspect the code.
“I'm nearly certain this wasn't a mistake, but rather a deliberate malicious act by a rogue Apple employee. Whoever did this is the least popular person in Cupertino. More surprises were spoiled by this leak than any leak in Apple history,” Gruber said.
Apple is known as a company that’s making huge efforts to prevent leaks, though photos and information of new models reached the web ahead of public launch every year. Such a major leak, however, reveals pretty much all details about the iPhone 8, more or less crashing Apple’s party taking place on September 12.
Even though iOS 11 is currently in beta, Apple keeps a number of features out of the testing builds sent to developers and public users in order to introduce them during the public unveiling with much fanfare.
This year, Apple will take the wraps off 3 different iPhones, which according to the leaked firmware will be called iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. Additionally, a new Apple Watch will also see daylight.
