We're more than a month away from the release of the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake, the perfect time to get a taste of what's to come. Square Enix has just announced a demo is now available for download, which introduces newcomers to the game some of the characters, as well as the basics of the combat.

Before you get too excited, let's clarify something: this is a rather short demo. On the bright side, at the end of the 1-2 hours demo, you get a boss fight. If you've seen the trailers released in the last months, you'll recognize the enemies and the locations immediately.

In the demo, you get to play with Cloud and Barret, two characters with completely different combat styles: melee and ranged. Your mission is to break inside a facility and plant a bomb on Mako Reactor 1, something that can be done in about an hour or so.

For those who played the original 23 years ago, this is the so-called “bombing run” mission. It was one of the most intense moments of the original Final Fantasy VII, and after finishing the demo I can say that the remake is just as riveting.

Although we don't have access to any Summon Materia in the demo, Square Enix was kind enough to release some images showing some of the powerful summons that your characters can utilize late on in the game.

Unfortunately, the developer wasn't able to remake the entire game in one go, which means that it will be released in multiple parts. At the moment, we know the first part will end the moment you have to leave Midgard, the metropolis where the story takes place.

The first installment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake sage will be released on PlayStation 4 on April 10, but make sure to download the 7GB demo that now up for grabs via PlayStation Store.
