Microsoft further refines the experience with File Explorer

The most recent Windows 11 preview build shipped to insiders in the Dev channel comes with additional improvements for File Explorer.

The built-in file manager already comes with tabs, and without a doubt, this is one of the biggest updates in many years. But in addition, the software giant is constantly working on further refining the application, and the latest build shipped as part of the Windows Insider program brings improvements for the search experience.

Starting with this build, whenever you want to use the File Explorer search, you should see results as you type, the company explains.

Worth knowing, however, is that this feature will be going live in stages, so not all users are going to be able to try it out at the same time.

“File Explorer search will now show results as you type. The full search results page will update live without needing to press enter. We are beginning to roll this out, so the experience isn’t available to all Insiders just yet,” Microsoft says.

At the same time, the company says it’s also experimenting with adding more cloud files to search results from Home.

When it comes to bug fixes and other improvements, Microsoft says it has added two such changes in the latest Windows 11 preview build.

“As a one-time change to help people find their folders with the navigation pane updates, if the default folders pinned to File Explorer’s navigation pane had been unpinned, they will be re-pinned after upgrading. Fixed a memory leak which was happening when closing File Explorer windows,” the company explains.

And last but not least, there’s one known issue impacting File Explorer, with Microsoft explaining that it’s currently working on a fix for a bug causing command bar items like copy, paste, and empty recycle bin to not be enabled in the file manager.
