Started as a rumor at the beginning of the year, the change of the naming scheme of one of the biggest franchises in the video game industry has just been officialized. Electronic Arts revealed today that its next FIFA series game will be called EA Sports FC.

After 30 years of owning the FIFA franchise, EA is now going back to basics, although not entirely. The publisher will continue to license all the players, stadiums, teams, and leagues, just like it did until now, so from this point of view, it’s business as usual.

Along with the name change, EA also promised that EA Sports FC will continue to include Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs and VOLTA Football. The publisher confirmed that its licensing portfolio of more than 19,000 players, 700+ teams, 100+ stadiums and 30 leagues will be included in EA Sports FC too.

This new independent platform will bring fresh opportunity – to innovate, create and evolve. This is much more than just a change of symbol - as EA SPORTS, we’re committed to ensuring EA SPORTS FC is a symbol of change.”

Exclusive partnerships have been announced with the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and the MLS, but more as expected to be revealed in the future. According to EA, before the new arrangement comes into effect next year, the studio still plans to deliver its “most expansive game ever with our current naming rights partner, FIFA.”

EA says it’s determined to offer fans the best FIFA game ever, with more feature, game modes, World Cup content, clubs, leagues, competitions, and players and any FIFA title before, although we can’t think of anything major that might turn the upcoming game in a massive hit.

More information about EA Sports FC will be revealed in Summer 2023, so until then, football fans will be able to purchase another FIFA game later this year.
