The Alpha build should be released on April 4

Last week, we told you that the upcoming Alpha build of the Fedora 26 Linux distribution was delayed by a week due to late blockers, being re-scheduled for tomorrow, March 28, 2017.

On March 23, the release team planned another Go/No-Go meeting, but it looks like they decided to delay the release of the Alpha, as well as the Beta and the final Fedora 26 Linux operating system, though we didn't spot any announcement posted on the Fedora Project mailing list at the moment of writing.

According to the release schedule, we can notice that the new release dates are now set for April 4 for the Alpha, May 30 for the Beta, and June 27 for Fedora 26 final. The Software Translation Deadline is set for May 2, and Beta Freeze will take effect on May 16, along with the "change checkpoint: 100% code complete deadline."

Final Freeze set for June 13

Another important date on the Fedora 26 release schedule is June 13, when the upcoming operating system will enter Final Freeze stage, which means that no major changes and features will be added until its final release at the end of June, if everything goes according to plan, of course.

Fedora 26 will ship with the latest GNOME 3.24 desktop environment for the Workstation edition. As for the other technologies that'll be implemented, we can only guess that the Linux 4.11 kernel and Mesa 17 3D Graphics Library will be present as well, along with the X.Org Server 1.19 display server.

The official Fedora 26 Spins should also receive the latest versions of their supported desktop environments, namely KDE Plasma 5.10, Xfce 4.12.3, MATE 1.18, Cinnamon 3.2, etc. Fedora 26 is the last release of the Red Hat-sponsored GNU/Linux distro to offer an Alpha build during its development cycle. We'll keep you guys updated as soon as we know more.
