A new type of battle royale game that takes place around Chernobyl, called Fear the Wolves, is going to arrive in Steam Early Acces on July 18th.

The fascination with the radioactive zone near Chernobyl has spawned some amazing games until now, but there is definitely room for some more. And, as the battle royale type games are what everyone seems to want to play right now, a new one called Fear the Wolves was put in production.

The successful games in this particular genre, Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, are quite different from one another, but Fear the Wolves won't be similar with either of those. In fact, the developers Vostok Games worked on original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise, and they are going for that exact vibe.

Not the battle royale you imagine

It's difficult to say beforehand if Fear the Wolves will be a success, but it certainly does have all the right ingredients. First of all, the devs promise that it will have the same core gameplay as S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which can only be a good thing.

"A new mode, gameplay features like leaning and crawling, more weapons, items, mutants, and weather – Vostok Games promise regular, large content patches, with a full plan of the update timeline available on the Steam page throughout development. The community will also play their part, with feedback welcome on everything from weapon balance to new ideas for Fear the Wolves’ unique weather and PvE systems," the developers from Vostok Games have explained.

Furthermore, Fear the Wolves is scheduled for a full release in 2019, on PC and consoles, but that's difficult to nail down. It seldom happens for a game in Steam Early Access to launch on time, but that remains to be seen.

Fear the Wolves is developed by Vostok Games and published by Focus Home Interactive.
