Naughty Dog is calling Uncharted 4 the end of an era

Naughty Dog has become synonymous with the Uncharted series, but they also worked on a number of high-impact titles, like Crash Bandicoot or Jak and Daxter. Now the studio is preparing to step away from Uncharted and perhaps try something new.

Pretty much anything that Naughty Dog touches turns to gold, and after they've done it for so many times, we know that it's not just about luck. The fact that each new Uncharted title has been a success and that the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief's End promises to give fans a grand finale is more than enough reason for the studio to consider ending the series with a bang.

Interestingly enough, the Uncharted franchise gathered enough interest for a film deal, but we all know how these movies usually end up. We don't usually see high successful game adaptations, and the future is not too bright for this film. It's been in works since 2009 and the director Seth Gordon, who was the latest to have accepted to direct the movie, has just quit the project.

Uncharted might be coming to an end

It's not clear what the exact nature of the relationship between Sony and Naughty Dog is, but it seems obvious that the studio wants to do something else as well. Their recent endeavor, The Last of Us, was also received with critical acclaim.

"We get more and more that feeling of this definitely [being] the end of an era for us as a studio. We’ve been with this franchise for almost ten years now from inception all the way to this point. Luckily, we don’t get too much time to dwell on that feeling because we’re so busy, but every once in a while... you know?" said co-director Neil Druckmann for the Official PlayStation Magazine, according to gamesradar.com.

Sony is still interested in this game, and it's possible that they don't want to drop the series, but it remains to be seen.
