The development team at Bethesda in charge of Fallout 4 is announcing that the 1.5 update for the open world title is now live on Steam in beta form and will be delivered on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony at some point in the next few weeks.

The patch is designed to make sure that the game is ready for the launch of the coming Far Harbor downloadable content pack and also introduces a new take on the Survival Mode that many members of the player community have been asking for.

Bethesda adds in the official announcement, "Also in development, Creation Kit and Bethesda.net Mods are still in closed beta. We hope to add Support for Mods to the 1.5 Steam Beta soon with console support for Mods coming in updates that follow. Stay tuned to Bethesda.net and the forums for when those updates will go live."

The company says that those who are running third-party mod manages to back up saves and then disable their mods before they get into the beta for update 1.5 on Steam to make sure that nothing is negatively affected by the tweaks.

To get access, players need to navigate to the Properties tab of their Fallout 4 entry on Steam, then choose Settings, select Beta and choose the new beta before waiting for the game to be updated.

In May, Fallout 4 will get access to the Far Harbor DLC, which is taking the player character and Nick Valentine to an island off the coast of the original game world, where they will have to deal with an entirely new quest chain while dealing with unique factions and taking out powerful new enemies.

The fan community has been so vocal in its support for the first three content packs for the game that Bethesda has announced that it is aiming to deliver another batch later in the year, although it has not offered any details about its nature.

Fallout 4 was criticized for its relatively limited story and the focus on gunplay, but many gamers love the freedom that it offers and believe that the new Survival Mode is offering a new way to enjoy the core mechanics.
