Fallout 4 aims at delivering a mix of familiar elements for those who played previous titles but also new mechanics that keep things fresh and make it stand out from its predecessors, according to developer Bethesda.

After years of speculation and rumors, Bethesda presented to the world Fallout 4 at E3 2015, as part of a special press conference. From the gameplay demonstrations, videos, and screenshots, the studio made it clear that Fallout 4 is going to elevate the mechanics seen in past titles, while adding a suite of fresh features for players to enjoy.

Fallout 4 players will find familiar and different mechanics

While talking with Metro, Bethesda Vice President of PR and Marketing, Pete Hines, confirms that the main goal of Fallout 4 is to ensure that it's still a Fallout game, meaning it has mechanics similar to the likes of 3 or New Vegas, but also that it has enough new things to warrant attention from players.

While at first veterans may not see that many new things, Hines emphasizes that, as they progress through the game, the new elements will become more and more apparent.

"If you played Fallout 3 you ought to be able to see things that are recognizable or similar. Because we didn't make a completely different game. But at the same time, when you're playing it it’s a mix of familiar and different. There are things that are the same and there are things that are very different. If you jump into the game and you play it for an extended period of time you'll start to feel the differences and how much some things have changed," he explains.

Fallout 4 debuts on November 10 worldwide across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The studio is expected to share more and more information about the old and new mechanics in the post-apocalyptic role-playing game as we get closer to its launch.
