The smartphone is ironically labeled “Designed to open”

Dutch company Fairphone is back with yet another modular smartphone that hopes to appeal to many customers. The second-generation Fairphone seems to be the dream of any tech-savvy that likes to tinker with their smartphone.

According to iFixit, Fairphone 2 is one of the easiest-to-repair smartphones available on the market, having scored 10 out of 10.

Even though Fairphone 2 is a considerable upgrade over the original model, the phone is only 6g heavier. Ironically, the smartphone has been labeled “Designed to open,” probably to urge owners to upgrade it with new modules from time to time.

The smartphone comes with a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports Full HD (1080p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

The LCD and cover glass are fused, which makes it simpler to remove but significantly increases the cost of replacement, iFixt claims.

You don't even need a tool to replace some components

Some of the components in the phone can be replaced without having to use any tools, just the hands. That's the case for the battery and display, which are usually the ones that fail most of the time and need replacing.

Also, individual modules can be easily opened and many components can be individually replaced, which is no wonder since this is a modular smartphone.

Another reason why Fairphone 2 got 10 out of 10 when it comes to the repairability factor is the fact that all buttons and cables are easily accessible, and spring contacts allow for future upgrades and easy component swaps.

Moreover, the internal modules are secured with Phillips #0 screws and simple spring connectors. On top of that, those who purchase the smartphone modular will also receive repair documentation built-in.

So there you have it, folks, if you plan on getting the Fairphone 2 know that you will have no issues replacing some of its parts, not to mention that it's very easy to repair.
