Because yes, that’s how much a factory-sealed original Apple iPod costs on eBay. The “super rare 2001 1st Gen” iPod, as the seller puts it, comes in an unopened box, so you’ll be the first one to hold the device in hand if you agree with this crazy selling price.
“I am a longtime Apple device collector, and this 5-Gigabyte iPod has been in my personal possession for almost two decades, kept in cool temperatures and away from sunlight. I guarantee that it has been completely unused and untouched inside its original packaging, along with its iconic headphones, charging accessories, and manuals,” the seller explains.
5GB of storage
As for what you get for $19,995, the iPod comes in white and features only 5GB storage, which isn’t much, but storage is certainly not the main thing you should be looking for on a collectible.
At the time of writing this article, the device is still up for grabs, with 234 watchers, but not a single offer submitted since it was published on eBay.
Meanwhile, it’s believed that Apple itself is interested in iPods, so the company could release a completely new model this year with an all-screen design. The 7th Gen iPod would look more or less like an iPhone XS, people close to the matter suggested, and could help Apple push harder for services like Apple Music, which have quickly become one of the main cash cows for the company.
It goes without saying that you shouldn’t hold your breath for a new iPod, albeit sources claim it could see daylight in the coming months.
