Facebook to display new popup detailing targeted ad

Apple requires developers to show a new popup in their iOS apps in order to let users what data is collect and how they’re being tracked, and social network Facebook was one of the first companies to criticize this approach.

And while Facebook says this approach hurts small businesses, it has no other option than to comply with the result, and this is exactly what the social network does with its iOS app.

But in addition to the privacy prompt that Apple specifically requested, Facebook will also show a popup of its own and which the company hopes would convince users to get their permission for tracking.

Facebook says Apple isn’t playing by its own rules

In other words, Facebook wants to tell users why targeted ads are so helpful for the overall experience all hoping they would understand everything and allow the company to track them.

“To help people make a more informed decision, we’re also showing a screen of our own, along with Apple’s. It will provide more information about how we use personalized ads, which support small businesses and keep apps free,” Facebook says in a new blog post.

“If you accept the prompts for Facebook and Instagram, the ads you see on those apps won’t change. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they will be less relevant to you. Agreeing to these prompts doesn’t result in Facebook collecting new types of data. It just means that we can continue to give people better experiences. We feel that people deserve the additional context, and Apple has said that providing education is allowed.”

Facebook claimed Apple’s so-called AppTrackingTransparency program is “about profit, not privacy”, explaining that the company disagrees with this approach but showing the prompt is the only way to go.
