14 DAY TRIAL // Lately, Facebook has updated its Messenger application with all sorts of features and functions to make it easier for its 900 million monthly users to send and receive messages. Now, it seems that the app has just received 3D Touch support on Apple's latest flagship smartphones, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
Facebook Messenger first received 3D Touch support for Quick Actions from the app icon last December, and today's update brings expanded 3D Touch features. Users can Peek and Pop inside the application to quickly view and even access information using the pressure-sensitive display.
However, message senders will be able to see whether recipients have read the message, which means that 3D Touch won't be a useful feature for avoiding the “Seen” text below received messages.
The 3D Touch allows users to preview conversations, photos and more
The feature will enable users to preview conversations, photos, GIFs, videos, stickers, links, and more content. 3D Touch capabilities can be used for previewing contacts, conversations, and locations as well. In addition, the Peek gesture lets users to preview information with a firm press while the Pop gesture requires a deeper press to open the full content.
The latest update to Messenger for iOS also comes with a layout fix for users testing iOS 10 beta. Specifically, the update solves the issue with a margin that blocked the top of conversations from the view screen. The new version is available on the App Store.
Just a few days ago, a rumor surfaced, according to which Facebook started testing end-to-end encryption among a select group of users. The upcoming version will include secret conversations and will be made available by the end of summer, maybe early fall.
Secret conversations won't support gifs, videos or payments, but will allow users to set a self-destruct time limit for messages they send, similar to the feature found on Snapchat.
