Facebook is one of the biggest social networks out there, with 900 million people using its Messenger app every month. Now, the company has just updated the application on both Android and iOS platform, completely redesigning the UI and adding many shortcuts.

Recently, Facebook has launched an update for its Android and iOS applications, one that redesigns sections inside the application and attempts to help users connect with friends more easily. Indeed, Facebook has completely redesigned the home section of the app and separated content into modular units.

The first few recent messages are displayed at the top of the screen, with the Favorites section right underneath. Moreover, the Favorites section highlights people whom users message the most so that they can find recent conversations faster.

In addition, the Active Now feature displays which users are currently active on Messenger. Facebook has also added reminders of people’s birthday, a feature that was previously only available in the main Facebook app. This means that users no longer need to open the said application and view notifications, as friends’ birthdays are displayed in Messenger.

Facebook aims to make Messenger simpler but adds modular units

Facebook has mentioned that the purpose of these updates is to make Messenger easier to use and to incorporate more relevant information. While that may be true, Messenger was, in fact, created as a simple app that would incorporate the messaging feature in the main app, but now it seems that Facebook is keen on clogging it with information, sections and details.

The company has recently introduced multiple new features that tarteted at keeping users inside the app and not switching to other services. Facebook has thus implemented SMS inside the app on Android, after the version on iOS got the update a few months ago.

Aside from that, Facebook has also introduced videos in comments, a feature that allows users to send videos as replies to messages.
