The official Facebook app for Windows 10 Mobile has returned to the store and is now available for download for all users running Microsoft’s new operating system on their smartphones.

Officially announced at the October 6 hardware event held by Microsoft in New York, the Facebook app only works on Windows 10 Mobile devices, but a universal version is very likely to be introduced very soon in order to offer support for PCs and tablets as well.

Previously, without an official Facebook application for Windows phones, Microsoft built its very own client in order to give users an easy way to access their accounts and stay in touch with friends. But this version is very likely to be discontinued now that the official Facebook app is up for grabs for everyone.

No longer a beta

What is worth mentioning is that this new version no longer holds the beta tag. The Facebook app launched in the store in early November, but only as a beta version. The app was then updated to remove the beta tag, but only a few days later, Facebook decided to pull it completely from the store.

The new version comes without a change log, but it’s now listed as version 10.1 and doesn’t seem to bring any big changes as compared to the previous releases. The improved UI had already been spotted before the app was pulled from the store, but some other under-the-hood improvements are also likely.

“Keeping up with friends is faster than ever. See what friends are up to, share updates, photos, and videos, and get notified when friends like and comment on your posts. See what's new with your Facebook friends from inside the People app, and sync Facebook events to the Calendar app,” the app description states.

Remember that this version is only aimed at Windows 10 Mobile devices and does not work on Windows Phone or Windows 10 PCs.
