14 DAY TRIAL // Facebook has just announced a major update is now rolling out for its mobile apps on Android and iOS platforms. The new version of the application brings some significant new features that users have been asking for quite a while now.
Surprising or not, Facebook has listened to its users and delivered. There's a new, more useful, notifications tab available for Android and iOS users.
Moreover, Facebook addicts will be able to customize their notifications tabs with the information they wish to get at a certain point.
“Every day, people use their notifications to keep up-to-date with their friends and family. We’ve heard feedback that people wanted to add important information that they can easily see, all in one place,” states Keith Peiris, product manager, Facebook.
That being said, here is what you can do with your new notifications tab. First of all, you will be able to add friends' milestones, including birthdays and life events.
Also, thanks to the new customization options, Facebook users will be able to use their notifications tabs for sports scores and TV reminders, based on Pages they liked.
Aimed at Facebook users in the US
Last but not least, you can get notifications on upcoming events that you have decided to join. But that's not all, as Facebook also enabled the option to get additional info tailored for you based on where you are.
Keep in mind though that this feature is only available if you enable Location History in the Facebook application. If you do that, here is what info you will get via notifications tab.
For example, you could get details on various things happening in your community, like events and news that is popular in the city where you live.
Also, you will definitely receive weather updates such as current conditions and severe weather alerts. Info on movies playing in theaters near you will be available as well, along with a list of nearby places to eat, with links to the places' Facebook Pages and reviews.
The update will not change the current notification settings, but you will be able to customize it as soon as you upgrade to the latest version.
Now, the bad news is this update will only be rolling out to Facebook for Android and iPhone in the United States, so if you do not live in this country, you won't be able to take advantage of all these changes.
