Facebook might prepare the release of the official app

Facebook has recently debuted its official client for Windows 10 PCs and while it’s getting ready to debut the mobile version too, it also started phasing out the beta app aimed at Windows 10 Mobile.

There are no details or official announcements in this regard, but there are reports that the Facebook Beta app for Windows 10 Mobile is now prompting users to remove it completely and install the stable version of the client. This doesn’t exist, whatsoever, so if you do remove the Facebook Beta app, your own choice for Windows 10 Mobile remains Microsoft’s own Facebook app.

It’s not yet clear how many users are now seeing the removal prompt, but Facebook is probably displaying it on devices gradually as it gives the final touches to the stable app.

“Uninstall this version of Facebook. This version of the Facebook app is outdated. Please uninstall it and use the latest version of Facebook in your apps menu,” the message reads. The prompt started showing up after the latest update received by the beta.

Windows 10 Mobile client coming “soon”

The official Facebook app for Windows 10 was launched in late April, but it’s only working on PCs powered by the new OS. And as far as Microsoft is concerned, the mobile version is coming “soon,” although no details have been offered until now.

“We’re thrilled to have this collection of apps available from Facebook for Windows 10 users coming to the Windows Store to download for free today and we’re excited to share that more great experiences from Facebook will be coming to Windows 10 mobile soon – stay tuned,” Microsoft said in an announcement last week.

The Facebook app for Windows 10 was first announced by Microsoft in October 2015 when the company also took the wraps off new products such as the Surface Book, so it took nearly 6 months to see the apps going live on PCs. Hopefully, it won’t take much longer to get the app on mobile too.
