UK-based Linux and macOS video games publisher Feral Interactive recently announced that they're porting the F1 2017 racing game to Linux on November 2, 2017.

Launched on August 25, 2017, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, macOS, and Microsoft Windows platforms, F1 2017 is currently one of the hottest racing games of the year. The game is developed and published by Codemasters, the makes of the Colin McRae and DiRT Rally titles.

It didn't take long, and the game is now coming to the Linux platform as well, ported by Feral Interactive. On November 2, you'll be able to purchase the game from Steam and play on your powerful and secure GNU/Linux distribution, though official support will probably be provided only for Ubuntu.

"By popular demand, the Linux team re-joins the exhilarating world of FORMULA ONE racing," said Feral Interactive in their brief announcement. "Swerve to the minisite for dramatic screenshots of F1 2017 in action. F1 2017 will be available for Linux on November 2nd."

Powered by the Vulkan API

F1 2017 features a massive Carrier mode if you want to win the Formula One 2017 World Championship by breaking all records in modern or classic F1 cars, cross-platform multiplayer, alternative track layouts, as well as an expansive Championships mode with a bunch of different rules and structures.

Feral Interactive didn't reveal the system requirements for the Linux port at the moment of writing, but the good news is that the game is powered by the Vulkan API, which means that you'll be able to enjoy astonishing graphics on your favorite GNU/Linux operating system. If you already own F1 2017, on November 2, 2017, it will become available on your Steam for Linux library, so you can enjoy it on your Linux distro as well, which could turn out for the game to run even faster than on Windows or macOS platforms. So mark your calendars for November 2, buckle your seatbelts, and get ready for the ride.
