Windows 10 Creators Update is launching today with plenty of improvements, including a blue light filter that really comes in handy when working on your PC during the night, but statistics show that nearly 50 percent of Windows users are still running an older version of the operating system.

In other words, half of the Windows users won’t get the blue light filter, and this is where f.lux comes into play.

One of the most popular and advanced blue light filters, f.lux, landed on Windows, iOS, and Android way before the companies developing these platforms implemented similar features into their operating systems. And even though users now have built-in features to reduce the amount of blue generated by their screens, f.lux continues to be a really popular application. And it’s no wonder why.

New features

A beta version released today brings lots of improvements that aren’t yet available for built-in alternatives, including the possibility of disabling the app for specific programs, like Photoshop, where seeing colors correctly is critical.

Additionally, f.lux 4.18 beta comes with bedtime mode to display warmer light before going to bed to prepare users for sleep, but also with presents to help adjust settings and with color filters for eyestrain and other modes. There is a wider range of color settings, plus a new hotkey to adjust colors.

In addition to all these features, there are also other improvements, with the developing team saying this beta has a reduced impact on game frame rates plus a resolution independent interface for high DPI displays.

It goes without saying that this is a beta version and some bugs might be experienced, but on the other hand, it lets us try out all these new features before they are released as part of a stable build. You can download f.lux right now from Softpedia and in case you’re already running the Creators Update, make sure you disable the built-in blue filter before running this app.
