TikTok bringing this new feature to all users out there

TikTok, the Internet phenomenon whose popularity is continuously on the rise, even after the Microsoft acquisition failed, has just announced that it’s rolling out support for uploading videos that are up to 3 minutes long.

In other words, users can now create longer videos after a successful experiment that launched in December and which everybody seemed to love.

TikTok originally started testing out this feature with select users nearly six months ago, and the company says longer videos just make sense for content creators.

Until now, users have turned to all kinds of tricks to upload longer videos, including splitting them into several parts, so this new feature certainly comes in handy.

Launching in the coming weeks

“Some of you might have come across a longer video on TikTok already – we’ve been letting creators around the world experiment with the expanded format,” the company announced.

“Creators are already well-versed in weaving multi-part stories together on TikTok (we all know the phrase, "like and follow for part 3”) but we often hear from creators that they'd love just a little more time to bring their cooking demos, elaborate beauty tutorials, educational lesson plans, and comedic sketches to life with TikTok’s creative tools. With longer videos, creators will have the canvas to create new or expanded types of content on TikTok, with the flexibility of a bit more space.”

Will this change kill off TikTok’s magic in the long term? This is hard to say, but for now, it’s pretty clear that longer videos would certainly come in handy to users who previously had to limit their content to 60 seconds because of the platform’s limitation.

The new feature will roll out over the coming weeks, TikTok says, and a notification will show up in each account once it’s available.
