14 DAY TRIAL // More details on Lamar Odom’s condition have emerged online, and it becomes clearer than ever that the situation is dire. The former NBA player and reality star, who was married to Khloe Kardashian, is now in a Las Vegas hospital after he was found unconscious in a brothel in Nevada. Doctors believe he may have accidentally overdosed, E! News reports.
“Every drug imaginable” was found in his system, the same media outlet says. He also suffered several strokes and has had multiple-organ failure. He is now in a coma, unresponsive, and his condition is listed as critical.
Lamar Odom is in a really bad shape
Lamar checked in at the brothel on Friday night, all alone, even though he usually travels accompanied by an entourage. He and the owner are friends, so he can count on his discretion, while enjoying major gratuities at the establishment.
He was found in his VIP suite on Tuesday night by one of the girls, who called the manager. The manager later told the paramedics that there was “mucus-type substance” coming out of Lamar’s nose and mouth when he tried to turn him face up.
The former basketball player was intubated and rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to another one in Las Vegas. He has not regained consciousness at all, and reports on his condition say that he is in a really bad shape.
Insiders at the hospital tell the media that he’s suffered multiple strokes, which probably left him with brain damage. He also has multiple-organ failure and is on a respirator.
“Lamar appears to have suffered an ‘ischemic stroke,’ which is caused by a blood clot preventing blood flow to the brain. This type of stroke is often associated with a cocaine overdose, among other drugs,” E! reports.
TMZ says that he also had liquid in his lungs, from his extended crack cocaine use.
A history of heavy drug use
Lamar has a history of drug use, starting with his absentee father, who is a recovering heroin addict.
When his career as an NBA player started going downhill, as pressure from being on the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality show became too much to bear, Lamar too started using. He would go missing for days, going on binges, and his performance on the court went from bad to worse.
In December 2013, after months of speculation on the state of their relationship, Khloe filed for divorce, thus delivering him the final blow. Despite her repeated entreaties, he would not admit he had a problem and he would not check into rehab, so she decided to leave him.
As of the time of his overdose yesterday, the divorce had not been pronounced final yet.
