14 DAY TRIAL // For those who don't know, Everspace is a space combat game in which players progress through sectors that become harder and harder. It's been developed by German studio Rockfish Games and included some roguelike elements, as well as non-linear storytelling.
Now the folks at Rockfish want to make a sequel to Everspace, but they want to remain independent at the same time, which is why they'll start a Kickstarter campaign for additional funding on September 9. The funding goal of €450.000 for Everspace 2 is not just meant to secure the independence of the studio, but it will also involve the community in the development process.
Unlike the predecessor, Everspace 2 promises classic RPG elements and persistent player progression, along with a much larger number of player ships and significantly enhanced storytelling. Not to mention that this will be an open-world space shooter with better visuals and sound.
Although the game has just been revealed this week, an early build was showcased at Gamescom, and a Let's Play video, which we've attached to the news, has already been released.
“With its innovative concept of rapid space battles with rogue-like elements and exciting storytelling, Everspace was able to excite over a million PC and console players, but many of our fans and space game enthusiasts were still longing for an open-world space shooter with classic RPG elements in the Everspace universe. With Everspace 2, we are making a big leap towards an open-world space shooter, but will still remain true to our DNA and offer exactly what our fans love: A beautiful fantastic sci-fi world paired with uncompromising space action that gets down to business right away,” says Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of Rockfish Games.
Everspace 2 will be launched on Steam Early Access in the second half of 2020, or at least that's the plan. If all goes well, the full game should hit all platforms – PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at the end of 2021.
