After it entered beta testing phase last month, the Parrot Security 3.9 ethical hacking and penetration testing GNU/Linux distribution is now available to download in its final form.

Just a minor improvement to the Parrot Security 3.x series of the Linux-based operating system used by security researchers for various pentesting and ethical hacking tasks, Parrot Security OS 3.9 is here with all the latest security patches and bug fixes released upstream in the Debian GNU/Linux repositories.

But it also looks like it ships with some important new features that promise to make the ethical hacking computer operating system more secure and reliable. One of these is a new sandbox system based on the Firejail SUID program and designed to add an extra layer of protection to many apps, protecting users from 0day attacks.

Parrot Security OS 4.0 in the works

Parrot Security OS 3.9 also comes with various other minor improvements that would make the operating system look better, run faster, and be overall more stable and reliable. However, it might not work as expected for all users, who are invited to check their driver's compatibility and report any issues they may encounter.

"In some cases this release might not work as expected, in these cases our users are invited to check their Firejail profiles and their driver's compatibility, and they should contact us immediately as all the new features introduced in Parrot 3.9 will be refined and consolidated for Parrot 4.0," said the devs in the release announcement.

Meanwhile, it looks like the next major release, Parrot Security OS 4.0 is now in the works, but it doesn't look like it's coming anytime soon as there might be more such point releases to the 3.x series of the operating system. You can download Parrot Security OS 3.9 right now from our website or update your Parrot Security OS 3.8 installations.
