Epic is not content with owning one of the biggest online games right now, Fortnite, and continues its expansion with the acquisition of Psyonix, the developers of Rocket League.

There is little doubt that Rocket League is one of those game that no one imagined it could actually succeed. Who could have guessed that a simulation of cars playing soccer is going to gather so many people? But it did, and naturally, it also attracted some pretty big buyers.

In fact, it’s a wonder that Psyonix hasn’t been bought until now, given the success and potential of Rocket League. Epic stepped in an bought the company, and it seems that for the time being the game is not going to suffer any changes.

Rocket League remains on Steam, probably

The Rocket League devs are trying to assure the community that the game will remain the same and that for the time being nothing is going to change. The initial announcement was a little bit unclear, and people understood that the game might be pulled from Steam and become an Epic exclusive, like many others before it.

Later, both Epic and Psyonix tried to clarify the situation by saying that, for now at least, they have no plans to leave Steam. This is the original statement: “The PC version of Rocket League will come to the Epic Games store in late 2019. In the meantime, it will continue to be available for purchase on Steam; after that it will continue to be supported on Steam for all existing purchasers.”

Later, Psyonix added that “We wanted to clarify something for you after today’s news: Rocket League is and remains available on Steam. Anyone who owns Rocket League through Steam can still play it and can look forward to continued support.” It sounds like a different thing, but not by much.

In any case, for now, it looks like Rocket League is going to continue to be sold on Steam and Epic and it’s not bound to change anytime soon.
