epiOS offers a Live CD and an Install CD Linux operating system based on the popular Gentoo GNU/Linux distribution, designed and optimized for VIA Epia systems.

epiOS is developed to support and detect all integrated hardware components, like the onboard MPEG-2 decoder or the PadLock (cryptography) engine out of the box.

The main purpose of epiOS is to provide a system which is easy to install, maintain and, of course, very easy to use even for inexperienced users, but keeping all the advanced features that Gentoo provides.

epiOS versions:

The Install CD is a KDE based desktop system which supports multimedia requirements like hardware accelerated MPEG-2 playback. It comes with OpenOffice2 and uses the openChrome video driver. Install CD also supports the dual processor board VT310-DP and works only with i686 compatible processors, which means this version will not work with the i586 compatible VIA C3 processors.

The Live CD is pretty much the same as the Install CD, only there are also VIA's enhanced MPlayer and Xine Player installed. Therefore, the installed video driver is also VIA's one.

Live CD version offers an installer, so you can easily install epiOS on your hard drive if you like it.

For the Install CD you can find on the home page many binary packages, which you can install and use very easy and fast. Download them here.

You can also find some portage snapshots created from the Desktop Edition 2005.01.smp portage tree, which you can download here.

Let's have a quick look at some screenshots of epiOS Live CD:
