In June 2014, comedian Tracy Morgan was involved in a serious car crash, when a trailer operated by a Walmart driver plowed into his own. The impact killed one of the passengers in Morgan’s vehicle and put the star in a coma for over a week.

Last night at the Emmy Awards 2015, held in Los Angeles and airing live on Fox, Morgan made his grand comeback to the stage. He was invited to present the award for the final category of the night, that of the Best Drama Series, and as you can see in the video below, he was welcomed with a standing ovation.

Many of his peers were teary-eyed, which gives credence to reports making the rounds after the crash that it was touch-and-go for him.

Morgan himself addressed his improving health, saying that he was still in recovery from the brain injury he sustained in the accident. However, he showed signs that his sense of humor had not been impaired: the first thing he did when he woke up from the coma, he said, was to rejoice to find out he hadn’t caused the crash.

“I’ve only recently started to feel like myself again, which means a whole lot of young women are going to get pregnant at the after party,” he continued, to loud cheers from the celebrities in attendance.

Since the accident, Morgan only did one other public appearance, this time on television, on NBC’s The Today Show in June. At the time, he was still using a cane when he walked.
