AMC’s hit series “Mad Men” ended this year, earning leading man Jon Hamm his eighth consecutive nomination at the prime-time Emmy Awards. The 2015 edition took place last night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and finally offered the fans the chance to see Hamm go home with one of those golden statuettes.
Indeed, the actor won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, beating competitors Jeff Daniels (“Newsroom”), Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”), Kyle Chandler (“Bloodline”), Kevin Spacey (“House of Cards”) and Liev Schreiber (“Ray Donovan”).
Based on Hamm’s reaction upon hearing his name called out as winner, people online believe that he too had lost hope he might ever get to see it happen. In fact, these were his first words after he climbed up on stage, literally so: “I think you made a mistake and I thank you for that.”
The audience was just as thrilled as the fans must have been to see him win, because they gave him a standing ovation. He would later tell THR that, after his joke of crawling his way up to the stage, he was more than a little “mortified” to see people on their feet, cheering for him.
Here’s the moment Hamm was named winner, together with his acceptance speech, which was one of the most emotional of the evening.
